Subject: BIO: Suzi Cope 26 Feb 2002 From: Suzi Cope <4suzi@ix.netcom.com> Date: Wed, 27 Feb 2002 11:40:13 -0600 Name: Suzi Cope Completed my first 100, Western States '85, as Suzi Clark. The next 30+ 100's were run as Suzi Thibeault, thus the Suzi "T" name. Finished Umstead 100 '99 as Suzi Shearer. Completed Sulfur Springs 100 2001 as Suzi Cope Current world record for most 100 mile finish name changes Address: 3550 Carmel Court Southlake TX 76092 On Lake Grapevine, near Dallas and Ft. Worth 817-410-2401 FAX 817-410-2301 E-mail: 4suzi@ix.netcom.com Occupation: RETIRED [;)] former Veterinary Technician and Travel Agent Height: The only thing that has not changed. 5'4" (taller than Gary Cantrell believes) Weight: weight is something I've always had trouble with, being an impatient person by nature. Birthplace: Hollywood, California Date of birth: 9-5-47 Years running: 23 years Years running ultras: 17 years Shoes I run in: Adidas Brahma women's 8.5 Favorite running surface: downhill dirt Some ultras I have completed: Over 100 ultra completions, including Barkley Fun Run, Hardrock 100, Grand Slam, Laurel Highlands, What Mi Wok 100K, and most of the 100's, including 27 official 100 mile finishes. Ultra achievement I am most proud of: Upon recent reflection I'd have to say I'm most proud of the endurance effort required to complete Hardrock. Not just the single event, but the six years of dedication required. Now I look back and see the sacrifices made, like other races missed, time and money spent, and the tremendous effort to prepare again each year for "one more try". After completing 16 100's without a DNF, Hardrock '92 was a BIG surprise when I dropped at 92 miles. I'm very proud of my eventual "official" completion in '97 after a DNF at 75 miles, two at 92 miles, and one unofficial finish 5 minutes over the 48 hour cutoff. Ultra I haven't done but really want to: I've thought about trying to collect the 100's that I have not tried. Massanutten Mountain and Blackhills beckon, and now there are new additions each year. Now I'm make one 100 completion annually the goal. Typical training week: Ideally my training week includes at least three days of scuba diving in a sunny destination, but I now cross train with sailing. Injury history: Blessedly this answer can be brief. Few. Favorite ultra foods: There is always something "new". I liked real food for any run that takes over 8-10 hours. FAST food though is best as a liquid, and my fastest food ever, is CLIP II SUCCEED! Electrolyte Capsules are the BEST addition to any ultra nutrition plan. Favorite ultra beverages: CLIP and water Things I like most about ultras: The challenge of survival. A chance to use the basic mental and physical skills we possess, in a manner only slightly enhanced by modern influence. Things I hate most about ultras: Sleep Deprivation What got me started doing ultras: Helen Klein proved to me that I could run farther if I ran slower. Why I do ultras: Consistent goal setting, ultimate fitness program, socialization, world travel, weight control and strength training. Where I found out about the list: my friend, Gene Thibeault Favorite ultra quote: DNF = "Did Nothing Fatal" I said it first, and I still live by it [;)]
