Jan Ryerse's Training for Arkansas Traveler

Prior to my second 100, the Arkansas Traveller in October 1998, I tried to incorporate more back to back middle to long distance runs in my training. I also did several high mileage phases (ie running 80-120 miles in 8-10 days) followed by a week or so of lower mileage recovery. This strategy helped me to run more and walk less in the last 40 miles of the AT. However, my finishing time was about the same as at KM, as the rocky hills at AT slowed me down, especially at night. The second histogram shows that I didn't do as many long runs leading up to AT as for KM and I think that also led to a slightly slower time.
