We have made a committment to adopt Handies Peak with the Colorado Fourteener Initiative, which is working to build (or rebuild) trails up the most popular 14ers, so as to reduce erosion and improve access. We are organizing a Handies Peak Work Party, to be held on the weekend of July 7-8, 2007 (that is, a week before the 2007 run). This work will be held in parallel with the course marking activities.
The maximum number of workers that can be accommodated is 30. Workers will be required to wear long pants. Leather boots or footwear is strongly encouraged. No dogs are allowed at the work parties. There may be some other trail work during the two weeks before the run depending on what trail conditions are like this year. In order to coordinate effectively with the CFI, anyone who desires to work on Handies is requested to send your name to John Cappis (cappis@bigfoot.com).
All workers who spend both days on Handies will be awarded an extra ticket in the 2008 lottery, approximately doubling your chance of getting in if you are a first-time applicant.
