Dear Ultrarunners Supporting Ultrarunners: I would like to thank you for the check to help cover the expenses associated with traveling to the IAAF World 100 km Challenge in Cleder, France. It was an honor and a privilege to be given the opportunity to represent the United States in this event. Although injury prevented me from running as competitively as I had hoped, the experience was truly the highlight of my athletic career thus far. I am grateful for the support I received from the ultra running community. As I'm sure you are aware, even the most competitive American ultra runners do not receive significant corporate sponsorship. Most of our events do not offer prize money, and most race directors do not offer travel stipends for competitive athletes. Our team does not receive the same level of funding from USA T & F as other national teams. For this reason, grassroot efforts such as the USU are even more important. I know of no other sport in which athletes support one another to this extent. Long distance running is a solitary, often lonely, pursuit. Knowing I have the support of my fellow ultra runners, and experiencing that support in a tangible way helps me to feel a better sense of connection with the ultra running community. I am grateful for this experience. Best regards, Anne Riddle
