Subject: Cameron Park 50m (XP)

Well, 56 hardy runners took off Saturday morning at the reasonable hour
of 7:30 to run 40 1.25m laps around Cameron Park Lake, just east of
Sacramento. RD George Staub introduced the celebrity lap counter, Errol
Jones, who had recently place 5th at Badwater and then off we went. The
course is on a wide running path around a small lake in an "airplane
commuter" suburb (the garages hold one car and one plane and the
streets are about 100' wide). There are virtually no hills, two bridges
and one great aid station every lap. As the day progresses, you get to
watch the families come to the lake to swim or barbeque and you also
get a chance to be lapped by the elite runners over and over again. It
got "warm" (90+) as the day went by, but it was the first time in nine
days that the heat dipped below 100, so we were fortunate. I was
running well until my stomach decided that it couldn't handle the
UltraFuel and HydraFuel at the aid station, and from there on things
went downhill, but I managed to finally finish (I've DNFed there before
and it wasn't going to happen this time). Hopefully, other list members
(Fred Liebes, Pat Wellington, Mike Palmer, Eric Robinson, Damon Lease
and Lady G!!!) can post their recollections. I hope to post full
