Subject: Nifty 50 Results From: "Don Allison World" Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2001 12:35:05 -0500 Here are the results of yesterday's Nifty 50 Mile and 50 Km. We experienced a beautiful late fall New England day once again. Jim Garcia produced nearly a carbon copy of his winning 2000 performance, clocking 5:42:44 to easily outdistance the field. That time, an average of 6:50 per mile, was good for Jim's sixth win in the 10-year history of the race. Kevin Setnes, who was even with Jim through 35 miles, finished more than 15 minutes back in 5:58:25. Jody-Lynn Reicher won a close women's race in 7:19:31. Of note were the 30 finishers in the 50-mile, nearly double last year's 16. The eight women who completed the 50-mile were the most in the 10-year history of the race. There were a pair of course records in the 50-km. Rick Doubleday breezed through the 31 miles in 3:27:59, chopping more than 13 minutes off Hans Put' s mark from last year. Tracy Rose lowered the women's course record by 12 minutes, clocking 3:57:43. Thanks to all who ran and especially to those that volunteered. It is heartening to see this New England championship reach its 10th year, with bright prospects for the future. Full report and photos coming in the Jan/Feb UR. - Don Allison, R.D.
