There was also heavy rain late on Friday that didn't bode well. However, race day conditions were clear although fairly cold (low 20s) after dark, with winds on the ridges. The modified course consisted of a one mile out and back at the start, followed by running 22 miles south to the Mexican border and then returning to Lake Morena (mile 46). The runners then did two legs through Boulder Oaks to Cibbitts Flat and back. Measured elevation was 12,387' of climb (and descent). At the finish, RD Paul Schmidt presented Monica Scholz with an embroidered wind shell from Patagonia to acknowledge her finish of 23 100-milers in one year. Stan -- Stan Jensen, P.O.
