Barry's Note to Everyone

I would like to thank all of you for joining us at Run On The Sly and entering into the spirit of our run.

Below you will find a report of the race from Margie Lopez Read, who along with her husband, Bob Read, founded the race and was the Race Director for so many years. The complete results should be posted on the website by Saturday evening. At that time, to view the complete results, you should click on http://www.runsly.org/home_pg.html and then click on the Results link.

Until that time, the 50-Mile and 50K results can be viewed at Robert Mathis’s Ultrarunner.net website by clicking on http://www.ultrarunner.net and then scroll down to the Run On The Sly link.

Please bear with me while I thank this incredible group of people again:

My co-RD, Robert Mathis, who along with his wife, Linda, entered all information from the entry forms to their computer database; and then spent the whole of race day recording everyone’s finish on their excellent system, developed by themselves. (Remember their upcoming race on October 16, Lake of the Sky Trail Run 50K - see http://www.ultrarunner.net/ for details).

Tom Cloud, who allows us to use his property for the Start / Finish Line and mows the grass and weeds down each year – he provides us with the beautiful setting for our BBQ at the end.

Dave and Rick of Fresh Pond Trading Post, who allow us to use their property for parking and water access. Whenever you are in this area, please use their store for your needs.

Glenn and Christine Powell-Millar, our Race Benefactors, who spend considerable time and money preparing the signs you see posted around the course, along with many of our medical and other supplies; and who measure the courses and provide mental health relief for the stressed Race Director.

Lucinda Fisher, my wife, who quite possibly worked as hard as anyone, and kept me on the straight and narrow.

Search and Rescue, whose staff did so much – communications, medical, parking, sweeping, water delivery and 101 other functions, all in good spirits and in bemused tolerance of the “crazy” runners. Their “management staff” is headed by Jim Swanson, Paul Duer, Cassandra Draxler, Linda Colombo, Jon Josue and Karen Meschi.

Stan Jensen, who coordinated the Registration and the Finish Line in his normal highly efficient manner.

All the aid station personnel, headed by Nancy Beland of the Hash House Harriers; Greg Soderlund and Norm Klein; Bob and Diane Dickinson; and Paul Stover with the SAR Nordic Ski Patrol.

The trail markers and checkers – Ken Crouse, Steve Douglas, Deanna Modic, Joan and Ray Scannell, Carol Hewitt, Hollis Henderson and Shoshone, Jason Davis and Chris Hall.

Our amazing BBQ staff, headed by Diane Kato and Joe McCladdie, who worked from very early in the morning (providing all volunteers with a cooked breakfast) until 7:00pm, when the last runners were still offered burgers.

The Finish Line staff – let me especially single out Ken Crouse, Pete Zisko, Mike Saling and Garred (sp?), Dallas Willard, Marvin & Rosemarie Johnson, Carole Hartman, Margie Lopez Read, Jill Anderson and Mark & Sharon Sanders, among others.

Bob Read and Bill Fisher, who provided the showers at the finish line and the group campground.

Bob Whitehead, who massaged tired and sore bodies at the finish line.

Bob Dude (or Radio Bob), our DJ who played upbeat music all day to help with our down-home atmosphere.

Robbie Creamer, who manages our website and who makes all the ceramic awards for the first three in each race.

The Key Club volunteers from Ponderosa High School.

Everyone else who I have not mentioned specifically. This event could not have been run without you.

Thank you to Don Lundell and Gillian Robinson who provided race bag goodies and staffed a booth all day. Visit their site at www.zombierunner.com for many of your running needs.

And finally, all the race sponsors, including Gatorade, Cytomax, Clif Bar, Hammer Gel, Fleet Feet, Trader Joe’s, Stretch Island Fruit Leather, Minuteman Press and many others.

This race is part of the Ultrarunner.net series.
