Subject: Western States and Hardrock Date: Thu, 13 Jul 2000 12:45:57 -0700 From: Stan Jensen Organization: Run100s - A Not-For-Profit UltraRunning Corporation To: ULTRA list CC: John Medinger Tropical John asked me to look up the names of those few people who have managed to finished both the Western States 100 and the Hardrock 100 in the same year, usually within 2-3 weeks of each other. Here are the names I found: Year Name Age WS HR 1993 Martyn Greaves 33 29:19:36 41:22:34 1994 Martyn Greaves 34 27:34:07 47:46:26 1998 Gordon Hardman 47 26:24:14 38:34:56 1998 Kristina Irvin(F) 40 27:44:40 44:32:07 1994 Burt Meyer 49 29:59:08 41:50:24 1996 Scott Mills 45 20:55:57 34:51:45 2000 Scott Mills 49 22:33:35 31:11:05 1994 Lee Schmidt 54 28:17:22 47:43:48 1998 Steve Simmons 32 29:22:04 40:57:57 2000 Hans Dieter Weisshaar 60 28:14:14 45:23:00 1993 Carl Yates 65 29:55:16 46:15:26 So ... Scott holds the record for fastest combined (and individual) times and is tied with Martyn for being crazy enough to do this double twice; Kristina is the only woman to finish; Steve is the youngest; and Carl is the oldest. My bet is that Hans Dieter will be the first person to finish this double in the course of finishing ten or more 100s in one year. Stan -- Stan Jensen, P.O.
